Plug-In Heat Pump Water Heater Field Study Findings & Market Commercialization Recommendations

RHA acted as a partner and assisted in the research for the 2023 Heat Pump Water Heater (HPWH) field study. The study independently field verified 120-volt HPWHs for user satisfaction, installer acceptance, and energy performance and reports on lessons learned, barriers encountered and key recommendations based on the performance of these HPWHs from California-wide installations. The findings of the study will help with market commercialization of the technology, including but not limited to policy adoption and program promotion. The research findings will also support targeted efforts to decarbonize the existing buildings market.
